Pros news

Following on from our new Lady Captain's disaster playing hockey before her drive-in last Wednesday, Sue decided to come along to the warmth of our Swing Room to have a driver fitting. During the fitting I used some face impact tapes to determine how well Sue was striking the ball. This led me to an explanation about the whole idea of trying to strike the ball more consistently, which I would now like to share with you.

Gear effect is a big part of any club you hit. Basically a ball hit out of the heel should start a little left and fade spin will bring it back to the right. Hopefully, if you hit it out of the toe it should start a little right and draw spin will bring it back to the left. This is all fine until the wind is blowing in the same direction as your ball is spinning. What happens then is the ball goes on the wind and it can look like you've hit a huge slice. This often then has the handicap player questioning his or her swing, when, in fact, it is the strike that is to blame. Invariably the golfer then tries to correct something that doesn't need fixing and so the spiral of bad shots continues.

So, the big question is:

How do you learn to hit the ball more consistently nearer to the centre of the clubface?

Well, for a start feedback is vital. Here is the answer to getting the information you need:-

Face impact tape

Monitoring the feel with the strike will, over time, help you to start feeling exactly where the strike is.

Available in the pro shop for just £3.99 per pack they will really help you to understand what is going on at impact with your swing.

Once you have got the necessary information, keep an eye out for my newsletter next week, as this will help you to put it right and therefore really move your golf forwards.

If you would prefer to chat about your ball striking, either come and see us in the pro shop, or click here to get in touch if you would like to arrange a lesson with one of our PGA Professionals.

Can you help?

We are now looking to put satellite internet down in the swing room. If anyone out there can help with feedback on this I would be very interested to hear your comments.

Click here to get in touch if you might be able to offer any assistance.

I'm now halfway through Dry January in aid of Cancer Research, so if anyone would like to sponsor me please click here, or visit the Just Giving website and search Bill Tye.

Shop news

With the current course conditions meaning we are restricted to carrying only on the course I have bought in a range of ultra-lightweight pencil bags which actual make carrying easier than using a push/pull trolley. Please come in and have a look, they're included in our January Sale discounts!!

Our January Sale has proved to be hugely popular, and all goods in the shop are reduced to make space for the new stock due in over the coming weeks. Fabulous, genuine bargains mean that we have, by far, the lowest prices in the country on lots of items.

If there is anything you need please drop in and have a look, and don't hesitate to ask one of the pro shop team if you would like any professional advice.

Enjoy the rest of my newsletter and have a great weekend.
