Although the golf course now has a definite autumnal feel about it, some of the scores in last week's white tees medal were exceptional. This definitely backs up the many positive comments I have been receiving about course condition.
Our greens are still true and firm and rolling as beautifully as ever and therefore presented Jason Jones the chance to shoot his best round of the year so far, a fantastic gross 70, nett 67 bringing him back down to 2 handicap.
Congratulations also to Mick Green for his seasons best score of 73 gross, nett 67 bringing him back down to 5.
The ladies held a 5 club competition on Wednesday last week and again scoring was good. Sue Parkes got round in a fabulous 37 to win division 1.
Scores like this can only be achieved if the course is in good enough condition to allow it, clearly this is very much the case at Eaton in mid-October. The green staff have not only been providing excellent greens for us all, but have been implementing more drainage work as directed by the course committee and funded by The Board. The areas that suffered most during last winter have been targeted to be improved with Gav and the team again carrying the work out "in house".
Let's hope all of this allows Eaton to successfully defend the title in this Saturday's Moore Trophy, and that, once again the scoring is great. Other clubs taking part include Vicars Cross, Delamere, Sandiway and West Lancs.
To be part of the Moore Trophy squad representing Eaton you need to be a category 1 male golfer, and while that might be a step too far for some of you, (!) it's not too late to play nearer to your potential more often. We still have a few places left to take a course of winter lessons.
