Is golf moving in a new direction?
Two weeks and two new formats introduced onto the circuit. Last week saw the PGA Tour host a team event for the first time since 1981 and it's safe to say it was a huge success. The players were able to choose their partner for the week, providing us with a little insight into the relationships amongst players on Tour. Playing two rounds foursomes and two rounds 4BBB, Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith came out eventual winners but only after a four-hole playoff against Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown on Monday morning.
This week sees the European Tour take centre stage in trying to revitalise golf to the masses with their GolfSixes event. There will be 16 two-man teams competing over six holes in a series of head-to-head matches, with one team being crowned champions come Sunday afternoon. The six holes all differ drastically; from music and pyrotechnics on the first tee to a long drive competition on the third to a nearest the pin on the fifth.
It promises to be an exciting event but only time will tell whether it catches on and helps grow the game of golf. In the meantime, watch our GolfSixes video here.
Course Condition
So, it's officially the start of the golfing season with the removal of preferred lies for the summer. I have to say that we haven't really needed them here at Eaton for 3 or 4 weeks since our green staff started striping up the fairways.
The course is playing the best I have ever seen it for the time of year, with the greens running faster and truer and also firmer than we could ever hope. The head green keeper's decision to ask the board to invest in our new turf iron is already paying off, with more positive comments than ever from members and visitors alike. We are very highly ranked by the Cheshire County Officials, with the course in this shape it's no wonder why. Here's a photo from a few weeks ago when the green staff were enjoying a pint in the clubhouse at the end of a busy week!
Lynx Demo Day
Hot on the heels of the fantastic success of our Callaway Demo Day a couple of weeks ago I am pleased to invite you all back to Eaton for the chance to try clubs from the Lynx 2017 range. As used by our own assistant Nick Foxon, Lynx offer a very strong line-up for men, ladies and juniors, with the range starting at more affordable prices than most and going up to their flagship top of the range models as used on tour.
If you would like to see the improved performance that Lynx can give your game then please book an appointment with us in the pro shop or click here.
Graham Roberts' Day
A very special thanks to everyone who played in our very own Tour professional Graham Roberts' day last Sunday. 18 teams took part and got fully into the special atmosphere of the day enjoying Graham's Beat the Pro challenge on the 6th and buying tickets for his raffle.
Cameron and I had great fun with Matty Cotterill and Gary Sutton, although being 6 under gross through our first 6 holes (starting on the 3rd) I think we probably peaked too early. Our final score of 63-4=59 was a couple of shots shy of Simon Williams' team who scored a fabulous 61-3.6=57.4 to take top honours.
Congratulations to Graham on a splendid day, and good luck from all of us out there on the Europro and 18-36 tours.
