The Spirit of the Game Shines through At Eaton!
Thanks to everyone who supported my 17th Professional's Day at Eaton. It was a truly spectacular day weather-wise which seemed to be matched by the quality of golf played by the winners.
The spirit of the game was very evident at the prize presentation afterwards. Justin Pierce-Kemp would have been 4th but made the error of not checking his card properly and signed for a 4 on the 12th when he actually took 5! When asked about it he immediately admitted his error and took the news of his disqualification with great dignity. A shining example of an Eaton member. It's great to win, but gentlemanly conduct is much more important at our club.
At the prize presentation, Bradley Claxton, who came 4th as a result of Justin's error then gave his £55 prize to Justin in a gesture of sportsmanship that left everyone present in total admiration, particularly Justin's marker and all round good guy Bernie Turner. Jimmy Williams has reduced his handicap even further to 10.4 following his marvelous nett 67. Surely no-one can catch him now in his bid to be most improved player of the year. Watch this space.
Here is a breakdown of the prize winners:
1st James Williams 79-12=67
2nd Peter Roberts 75-7=68 cpo
3rd Nick Cornish 93-25=68
4th Brad Claxton 85-13=72
Best Gross - Pete Roberts 75
Longest Drive - Jason Jones
Nearest the Pin - Neil Jackson
Titleist Demo Day
Our Titleist demo day on Monday, 19 June was also a huge success with Titleist giving golfers from Eaton and the surrounding area a chance to try their 2017 range of Metals, Irons, wedges and putters. Distance gapping, particularly into the green was an area where some of the people who came along saw the biggest reason to upgrade. One customer had an 11 degree gap between his shortest 2 irons, which is the same as having a 6 iron, no 7 or 8 and then a 9! Clearly making a difficult game even harder.
Records tumble at Erin Hills
There's no arguing that Ryder Cup player Brooks Koepka was the deserved winner of the 117th US Open at Erin Hills. The American carded a wonderful final round of 67 to win by four, having gone into Sunday one shot off the lead alongside playing partner Tommy Fleetwood.
Justin Thomas also found himself one shot back with 18 holes to play, something which looked rather unlikely before a historic 63 vaulted him up the leader board on 'moving day' whilst breaking the record for the lowest-ever US Open round in the process. But this wasn't the only record to fall last week, as Koepka's four-round total (16 under) equalled the US Open's lowest winning score which was previously set by Rory McIlroy back in 2011.
With much of the pre-tournament hype focusing on the penal rough lining the fairways, it probably doesn't come as a surprise to learn that Koepka hit 49 out of 56 fairways across the four days whilst also managing to find 62 out 72 greens in regulation - including 17 during his final round! Truly impressive golf.

Christleton and Waverton Fete's
Eaton will, once again be at both the Christleton and Waverton Fete's on the upcoming 2 Saturday's. We will be showcasing our fabulous club and challenging young and old to have a go at hitting a ball, chipping, putting and Tri-golf.
We really could do with some more volunteers to help set-up and assist in making sure these are once again positive events for Eaton in the local community. Please call the Pro Shop if you can spare an hour or two between 11.30am and 5.30pm either day.
Callaway Epic Irons
New into the pro shop this are Callaway's brand new Epic irons. I am one of only 10 custom fit centres in the North West for this exciting addition to the Callaway range. Available in Standard or Pro heads and countless shafts, this premium club will probably not be seen much on tour because it goes too far!! I can't wait to hit it to find out.
Full custom fitting is available in the swing studio using our launch monitor. Please get in touch if you'd like to be one of the first to give it a go.

Oakley 18 Hole Trial
There are many different Oakley sunglasses styles to choose from and all have the golf specific lenses, which help see the contours of the greens more clearly, something most sunglasses are unable to do.
Experience this for yourself by taking a pair of Oakley sunglasses out for a FREE 18-hole trial. All you need to do is come in-store and pick up our demo pair of Oakleys. It's as easy as that.
