Ladies Invitation Day

Eaton welcomes home old friends!

Although I was absent on this day due to a family funeral it was great to see past lady members and good friends Lesley Mifsud and Val Orme back at Eaton and on the winner's rostrum. Partnering Sarah McMahon and Sue Cox the dream 4 shot a fantastic 86 points to win by 2 clear points.

In 2nd place and continuing to benefit from their regular lessons were Kay Vickers and Sue Petranca with their guests Barbara Sutton and Alison Buxton

3rd place went to Marianne Foster and Sarah Evans with guests Hilary Bartley Jones and Wendy Cousins on 83 points.

Mens Invitation Day

Rugby pips footy on card playoff!

Ex rugby player and serial winner John Loughlin and his guest Steve Clarke from Royal Porthcawl came out on top with a fine 44 points to edge out Evertonian Kevin Thompson and his guest from Bromborough Denis Munroe. In 3rd place on 41 points was Alun Rees with another Porthcawl member Bardie Melhurse.

Black Course for All

A total of 69 golfers played in the choice of tee Stableford on Sunday, 48 choosing the Black tees and 21 playing off the yellows.

Winning the black comp was our own Stevie G, Steve Gaskell with a level par 72 for a fantastic 42 points. Steve is a very classy player, not the longest off the tee, who proves that the Black tees are not just for the long hitters. In 2nd place was 8 handicapper Dave Randles on 40 points, and 3rd went to Adrian Senior with 38 points. Ady was off 28 handicap prior to his round and so many might have thought he would be a typical yellow tees player. How wrong they would be as his fine round saw him reduce his handicap to 26.

The Black tees are indeed for all players. Many find them actually easier because the fairway bunkers which are placed to catch slightly offline tee shots become out of range.

Well done to all of this week's winners.

Pros news

PGA Lombard Trophy Qualifier

Andrew Chamberlain and I had a great day out at Sandiway Golf Club on Tuesday representing Eaton in the PGA Lombard Trophy qualifier. We set in a very positive fashion with a birdie on the 1st and nett birdies on 2 of the next 3, turning in 33 and came back in 32 for a 65 tying 5th out of 50. -9 under won, our 2 lip outs on the last 2 greens denying us 2nd place. The course was in great shape and food before and after was splendid. Thanks Andy.
