Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, I give my review on the new Titleist 718 range, release our new coaching classes and we also have our final video in the 'Improving your driving' series from Andy Sullivan. Enjoy the read.

18 AP3 - This iron is a new addition to the range and fits in between AP1 & AP2. I would describe it as looking like a players club but affording a high level of forgiveness. It is not forged but has a similar profile to the AP2 but is about a club longer.

718 T-MB - This has been available in only long irons until now but the 718 version is available right through to pitching wedge. It features a hollow head design with lots of Tungsten weighting giving a very forgiving head whilst looking like a blade. I still see this as being a great long iron option but I'm sure some will opt for the full set.

718 MB - This is a classic looking club with thin top edge and narrow sole and looks beautiful. It is not too small though and is surprisingly playable and the feel of the forged head is amazing. This would be definitely be a great option in the mid to short irons but maybe a little scary in the longer irons like 4 or 5.

718 CB - Again this is a fantastic looking iron but offers more forgiveness than the MB with a small cavity design. It has great feel again from the forged head and could work well in combination with the MB.

Captain/Pro Series 2017

Thanks to all of you who decided to challenge John and myself to a match this year. I can say it has been a fantastic series of matches for us with everyone being on the 1st tee at the correct time and on the right day too!

We were only beaten once all season! The pairing of Andrew Ramsey and Bob Costello won by 2&1 with Andrew playing his very best golf dovetailing brilliantly with Bob who, in my opinion knows his own game better than perhaps everyone at the club.

Dave Killoran and Stewart Campbell managed a half in a keenly contested match with lots of birdies and, in the last match of the series, this week, Phil Davies and John Gornall also played some inspired stuff to grab a half. Phil had to hole the last putt from 5' to snatch the draw.

All the matches were played in a wonderful spirit, with lots of banter and good fun had.

For the new members of the club, please get your names down to play in next year's series against Mike Brereton and myself when the sheet goes up on the night of the Captains Dinner. I know Ilesy and Largy will be looking to halt the run of success shown by the Captain and Pro this year! Thanks to all.

Ladies Beginner/Improver Group Lessons.

As a repeat initiative I would like to offer all the lady members the chance to take part in a series of group lessons aimed at improving your understanding and skill of the game. Starting on Monday, 30 October at 12.30 for our non-working ladies and Saturday, 4 November also at 12.30 for the ones still working. The sessions will run for an hour and will cost £5 just per hour.

Booking is recommended since we are limited to 7 ladies per session. I aim to answer all your questions regarding the finer points of the game and hopefully clear up any doubts you have. If you would like to take part please book here.
