Reed Holds his Nerve
The final round leaderboard was perhaps the most quality laden one ever, with all the players in contention being right up there in the world rankings and, of course Rory looking to become only the 6th golfer in history to complete the Grand Slam. Whilst every credit must go to Patrick Reed for winning almost wire to wire, it was not the result we wanted on this side of the Atlantic.
Reed is not popular with the crowds, but that won't have worried him as he won his first Major and slipped on his Green Jacket. |
|
Reed was clearly ready to win, and although edgy for the first few holes, every time he made a bogey he birdied back straight away. He dealt with the charging Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler and followed his birdie on 14 with 4 straight pars including a clutch 6/7 ft putt on 17.
The confidence he showed only comes from being on top form, but at the elite level golf is 99% mental. Sure, Majors have been won by golfers playing their B game, indeed Tiger's B game was often good enough, but round Augusta the A game is a prerequisite. I have a nasty feeling it won't be Reed’s only major.

Captain/Pro Challenge The sheet is up in the locker room for this year's Captain, Mike Brereton and myself to challenge you to a 4BBB Matchplay game. Last year's Captain John Iles and I only lost once, so bragging rights to Bob Costello and Andrew Ramsey for winning 3&2.
Fancy your chances this year?

Sunglasses are far more than a fashion statement. Oakley spends a lot of time creating eyewear to benefit your performance on the course, and its new model for 2018 has some innovative technology that you’ll need to try on to believe the difference. |

| With Prizm Dark lenses |
|
How will Prizm lenses benefit your golf? As well as providing powerful UV protection, Oakley’s Prizm lenses fine tune the colours you see to help maximise contrast and enhance visibility. This gives you better depth perception and makes subtle slopes easier to spot, as displayed in the images with and without Prizm lenses above. Both Prizm Golf and Prizm Dark Golf lenses do this, with the former optimised for bright light conditions and latter ideal in medium light. |
Come and try Oakley Targetline Built with golf performance in mind, the stylish Targetline models here have an angled brow and sleek temples for a better fit under a hat. They also boast taller lenses that ensure uninterrupted downward vision to your ball and textured inner temples and a non-slip nosepiece for a comfy and stable fit. |
