Competition news

Club Championships

This weekend sees our biggest ever Men’s Club Championships taking place, with 108 players of 15 handicap or lower entered. 5 players are scratch handicap or better with a further 17 in category 1. We normally have a bit of fun on the day trying to guess who might win. Who do you think will win? Let us know here.

The Chance Trophy, for the 16+ handicappers also has a record entry of 54 golfers.

Have you picked up your mini rake yet? We are selling personal rakes for you to use out on the course to help with bunker maintenance while the main rakes are out of action. Help to keep our wonderful course tip-top all of the time. Our green staff will be really appreciative for your help in looking after the bunkers after you visit them.

Thanks again everyone for your support, patience and encouragement over the first couple of months since lockdown, we really do appreciate it. We have had quite a bit of recent success with customers buying new clubs or having lessons, (with all 3 of us) and then winning prizes in the club competitions.

So if you want to play better golf come and talk to us. We particularly like it when your winnings are paying for your next course of lessons!

Strange Times

They really are strange times that we’re living in at the moment. Whilst writing my newsletter, vice-Captain, Phil Davies popped into the shop before playing his semi-final of the Winter Foursomes! In mid-July!! Should be a good game, Phil and Captain Simon Dangar versus Pete Roberts and Justin Pierce-Kemp.

Phil also made me laugh because in last night’s Zoom Membership meeting, when Chris Gamble shared that when he first came up to Eaton and came into the pro shop he felt nervous about being at such a prestigious club.

Phil said he still gets nervous every time he steps foot in the pro shop because we keep emptying his wallet! Long may it continue, ha ha!

A fantastic performance

Certain rounds make us mere mortals say “Wow!”.

Collin Morikawa had one of those rounds on Sunday. Justin Thomas really should have won the tournament - and when you sink a glorious putt from 50-plus feet for birdie in a playoff it’d be understandable to celebrate as you have - but, as I said, Morikawa had a “Wow!” round.

This was Morikawa's second PGA Tour victory. That might not sound too impressive as a standalone statement, but it's one more than the number of cuts he's missed so far in his youthful career. Just let that sink in for a minute.

It goes to show how consistent the top players are. So, rather than trying to hit the ball further, maybe we should all be striving for more consistency in our game? Share your thoughts with us using the button below.

Being a single-figure golfer, there's a good chance that at least one club in your bag has been fitted to suit your swing. We're big advocates of custom fitting when it comes to purchasing new clubs and would encourage you to go through the process again if you're considering an upgrade to your set.

Whilst many of you have been custom fitted before, your specs are likely to alter over time as your swing changes.

This is the best bit about the fitting experience - trying out the latest products from multiple brand until you find the one you prefer.

You ARE good enough

A recent survey highlighted that nearly a quarter of golfers who haven’t been custom fitted before believe that they are not good enough to go through the fitting process. We're incredibly passionate about finding the best clubs for your game - no matter your golfing ability or experience - and an enjoyable fitting experience is the most effective way to do this and help you improve as a golfer.

Consistency is key

It’s nice to be able to hit the ball further and more accurately, and a custom fitting will help with that, but the main thing is to be more consistent so that your bad shots are few and far between.

Testing different clubs

This is the most enjoyable part for any golfer - trying out the latest equipment from different brands. It's not just about what performs best, but also about what you prefer in both looks and feel.

Once we have a club that you particularly like, we'll look at the finer details with you so it's perfectly set-up for your game. We appreciate it's a big purchase, so we want to ensure you walk away happy.

Making life easier off the tee

The average golfer will use their driver between 10-13 times per round. That means between 50-75% of holes are relying on that one club for a good start. But how do you ensure you get that good start?

Finding the right driver

First things first, if you want to find the fairway with more regularity then you need to feel comfortable with your driver. This game is made so much easier when we're confident in playing the shot at hand.
