Which device is best for you?

Having conducted a recent survey, we found that 3 out of 4 golfers use a distance measuring device on the golf course.

Not only that, but the type of device players are lining their bags with is pretty varied, especially when you break it down by handicap.

GPS Devices by Category

Golf watches were the most popular distance measuring device for players with teen handicaps, while single figure handicap golfers tend to use a laser rangefinder just as much.

This brings us back to the question: how do you know which kind of device - or devices - is the right one for your game?

Today we want to run you through the kinds of distance measuring devices we have in-store, how they’ll help you play better golf, and some examples from Bushnell that you’ll not want to miss out on.

Bushnell Golf Handheld devices

Handheld devices are very accessible little tools that are small enough to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and can be slipped into your pocket with ease. You can effectively bring them with you anywhere and the battery life lasts for hours on end. These devices are in the more budget-friendly end of the scale and are a great suggestion if you’ve never had a go with one before.

One such handy device is the Phantom 3 from Bushnell. This compact device has an easy-to-use touchscreen that makes it easy to navigate like a typical smartphone. The Phantom 3 features Bushnell’s own Slope technology that takes into account the severity of the ground’s many contours and slopes to give you an accurate compensated distance reading of how far away the target is. You can drag the virtual flag on the screen so that it lines up with where it is on the green you’re approaching, and the device can track up to 6 hazards per hole to keep you informed of nearby dangers.

Bushnell Golf GPS Watches

As we mentioned at the start of this read, GPS watches are the category most of our golfers said they play with, and it’s clear to see why. Not only are they very convenient to wear, but they’re very easy to use and give you super accurate distance readings instantly.

If you have a handheld device but you’ve yet to experience the magic of a GPS golf watch, one of these will seriously upgrade your game. A handheld can give you yardages to finite points like hazards and greens, and a watch will compliment this by giving you a more visual representation of the green ahead on the watch face.

With a bright colour touchscreen display, the iON Elite looks fantastic and sits comfortably on your wrist. This affordable-yet-powerful entry from Bushnell comes packed with features, including GreenView that allows you to reposition the flag on any virtual green to give you a more reliable estimate of how far away the hole is. There’s no need to stand on the tee recalibrating the device after each hole, the auto course recognition and auto hole advance capabilities will have your position at all times with satellite-accuracy.

Bushnell Laser Rangefinders

Laser rangefinders offer the most precise distance readings of all these products. With zoom-in capabilities that can bring objects into focus from hundreds of yards away, this is an exceptional tool for the discerning golfer.

Did you know that while 53% of single-figure handicap golfers have a laser rangefinder in their bag, only 8% of those who play off 10+ use a laser?

Golf can often be a game of inches, and the better players know every lip and curve of the hole ahead of them has an impact on how they’re likely to score from where they are.

GPS watches can give you handy yardages to the front, middle, and back of each green, providing you with a better understanding of how to approach the hole. One of these laser rangefinders, however, gives you total pinpoint accuracy to the hole. Pairing them together, you’ll directly know the yardage tiers of the green as well as the level the hole is on, not bad for being hundreds of yards away!

If you want to hunt down the greens with total precision, the Tour Hybrid will have you landing close to the hole every time. This delicate yet powerful laser rangefinder has crystal clear lenses that can zoom in up to 6X the standard setting. This gadget can see over 500 yards into the distance, ensuring you’ll be fully clued up on which club to reach for on any given approach shot. Rather than hesitating about the potential for unforeseen hazards ahead of you, you’ll be able to spot them clearly on every tee.
