What a fantastic addition to the diary the Senior Club Championships were. A massive thumbs up to Mark McNamee for coming up with the suggestion. Last Thursday and Friday we held our first ever tournament to find out who is the best male golfer of the club aged 55 or over. The turnout for this new tournament was wonderful showing that there is ample appetite for the format and although there were nett prizes this is all about the best 2 round gross total.
I guess it’s totally fitting that our Captain, Simon Dangar should be the competition’s first winner. Simon shot 79 + 76 = 155 to win by 2 shots from Andy Vernon (81,76). Special mention to nett winner John Boswell who followed a first round 76 with an amazing 64. Amazing because it included a double and a triple! Wow! Coulda, woulda, shoulda been a fifty something! Simon gallantly offered to purchase a trophy for the event when it was first decided that we would be going ahead with it, and while he hasn’t bought it yet, we get the feeling it might now be a very grand trophy indeed!
